I looked him up in my Audubon Society Field Guild and came up with leaf footed bug. That's 2 votes so far. I'm with you, he's ugly! Excellent capture, though.
I'm laughing at your title! Yes, some bugs are just plain ugly, but it's still interesting enough for us bloggers to take pictures..I'm guilty of that!
Looks like it could be the leaffooted as mentioned already. Interestingly, they are sometimes called stink bugs as well because they will emit an odor when distressed.

A strange looking critter!!! Good pic! Cathy
He looks similar to the stink bugs that we have here, but the coloring is different. Nice macro!
Looks like a leaf footed bug and I think you are being a bit harsh. Perhaps no beauty, but still, ugly? Give the bug a break!

I have no idea, but you've captured some great detail.
Close to the likes of a stink bug if you ask me....
My macro photo is questionable...is it a TREE SERPENT?
It reminds me of a stink bug. Great shot with lots of detail.

Ugly, but facinating critter!
And thanks for visiting my post :o)

looks like a stink bug or squash bug. Squash bugs are stinky too-- I've squashed plenty so know first hand. Great capture!
oh you love him really! \../
No! Not ugly! I think he's rather sweet! I was going to say he looks like a shield bug, but DBM is most likely right. ;)
